HARDWOOD FLOORING TYPES

SOLID HARDWOOD

Solid hardwood flooring is made from strips or planks of hardwood that are attached to a subsurface, such as plywood or concrete, to create a stable and durable floor. This type of flooring is typically crafted from hardwood species like Oak, Birch, Walnut, Cherry, Maple, Hickory, and others. Each wood species provides unique coloration and grain patterns, adding distinct character to any space.

ENGINEERED HARDWOOD

Engineered wood flooring is made from layered boards rather than solid wood. The top layer is typically a hardwood, with Hickory, Walnut, Oak, Maple, and Cherry being popular options. Beneath this hardwood veneer, multiple layers of wood or plywood are stacked to create a stable core, making the flooring less prone to expansion or contraction when exposed to fluctuations in temperature and humidity. This construction provides both the beauty of hardwood and enhanced durability.

About Acadia Floors and Decor

SOLID HARDWOOD

Wood floors come in a variety of species, with Red Oak being one of the most popular choices due to its ideal balance of durability, workability, value, and beauty. White Oak is also common, featuring nutty brown hues and dramatic grain patterns that range from sleek to vibrant. Hickory, one of the densest hardwoods, is favored for its resistance to dents and dings. Other options include Ash, Birch, Maple (both Brown and White), Cherry, Walnut, and various types of Pine, offering a range of aesthetics and durability to suit different preferences.

CLEANING

Solid wood flooring is easy to maintain. Regular sweeping helps prevent scratches by removing debris, and a simple mixture of vinegar and water can be used to loosen dirt and contaminants, keeping the floor clean and looking its best.

Our Values

Benefits of Solid Wood Flooring:

  • Easy to Clean: Solid hardwood flooring is much easier to clean than carpet and is more resistant to spills and stains, making it a low-maintenance option.
  • Longer Lasting: Unlike carpet, which requires frequent replacement, solid wood flooring is built to last a lifetime, offering enduring value.
  • Flexible Design Options: With a wide range of colors and designs available, solid hardwood flooring can complement any decor, providing versatility in style.
  • Improved Air Quality: Solid wood flooring does not harbor allergens, dander, pollen, or other particles, contributing to better indoor air quality, especially for allergy sufferers.
  • Better Acoustics: Solid hardwood flooring enhances the acoustics of a space, creating a more pleasing auditory environment.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Although the initial installation cost of solid wood flooring may be higher than carpet, its durability makes it a more cost-effective choice in the long run.
  • Variety of Color Options: Solid wood flooring can be easily stained to a wide range of colors. For instance, Carlisle offers a virtually unlimited assortment of hues, allowing you to select anything from light Ash to dark Maple floors to perfectly match your interior design.

Engineered Hardwood flooring

engineered

The choice of wood species significantly influences both the appearance and performance of your engineered wood floor:

  • Oak: A popular choice, Oak is known for its durability and classic grain patterns, making it a timeless option.
  • Maple: Offers a clean, modern look with high hardness ratings, perfect for a sleek, contemporary style.
  • Walnut: Provides rich, dark tones and a softer feel underfoot, adding warmth and elegance to any space.
  • Exotic Species: Options like Brazilian Cherry or Acacia offer unique colors and distinctive grain patterns for a more striking, exotic look.

When selecting a wood species, consider the existing decor in your home and choose one that complements your style while offering the level of durability you need.

BENEFITS OF ENGINEERED HARDWOOD

Engineered wood flooring offers several benefits over traditional solid hardwood:

  • Enhanced Stability: Its layered construction minimizes expansion and contraction, reducing the risk of warping or cupping.
  • Versatile Installation: Ideal for areas with higher moisture levels, such as basements, and can be installed directly over concrete slabs.
  • Wide Selection: Choose from a variety of wood species, colors, and finishes to match any design preference.
  • Low Maintenance: Many options come pre-finished, requiring less upkeep compared to unfinished solid wood.
  • Cost-Efficient: Although it may have a higher initial cost than unfinished solid wood, engineered flooring often proves more economical overall due to lower installation and finishing expenses.

DAILY CLEANING ENGINEERED HARDWOOD

To keep your engineered wood floors in top condition:

  • Sweep or Vacuum Regularly: Remove dirt and debris to prevent scratches on the surface.
  • Use a Microfiber Mop: Clean with a wood floor cleaner specifically designed for engineered wood to tackle stubborn dirt.
  • Wipe Up Spills Immediately: Prevent water damage or staining by addressing spills right away.
  • Place Felt Pads: Attach these under furniture legs to avoid scratches when moving items.
  • Use Area Rugs: Protect high-traffic zones from excessive wear by placing rugs in these areas.
